Criteria for 2nd year students in HCA
To be accepted into the second year Health Care Career Academy at STC, the following minimum criteria must be met. The Academy Development Committee retains the ability to modify these criteria.
The applying Academy student must:
1. Have the ability to provide valid transportation to off campus activities.
2. Successfully complete the LNA certification exam and CPR/Basic Life Support criteria.
3. Successfully complete the First Responder/Emergency Care Attendant certification exam in order to have the option of a rotation at Regional Ambulance or RRMC Emergency Department.
4. Intend to pursue post secondary education in a health career.
5. Agree to take CSC classes or CP classes at RHS.
6. Have parental permission (regardless of age, as long as still residing in the parental/foster home).
7. Have a recommendation from the current instructor.
8. Have maintained a B average in all classes during the first year in Health Careers.
9. Have demonstrated independence, reliability, responsibility, dependability, an ability to follow directions, honesty, a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and service to others.
10. Must understand that CSC and STC academic schedules differ; and agree to attend classes at each institution following the individual schedule.
11. Must participate in assigned externship.
12. Must agree to limited financial obligations associated with CSC attendance (or have a prearranged exemption through the STC instructor).
