WELD-05  INTRO TO GTAW WELDING
Starts:  3/07 thru 4/04/12
Wednesday 5:30 – 8:30 p. m.
5 weeks
$288 + $100 Materials Fee ($388)
Maximum Enrollment:  8
This is an introductory-level class in the basics of equipment, setup, and welding techniques involved in using the gas-tungsten-arc welding (GTAW) process.  The GTAW process (formerly called TIG or heliarc) is typically used in applications that require high-quality of precisely controlled weld deposits rather than high productivity applications.  This class is intended for individuals who are proficient in using other welding processes and will focus on process fundamentals as they apply to light gauge carbon steel materials.  Students should wear leather shoes, a long sleeve shirt, and safety glasses.

WELD-01 GTAW Welding Level I
Starts:  4/25 thru 6/27/12
Wednesday 5:30 – 8:30 p. m.
10 weeks
$400 + $175 Materials Fee ($575)
Maximum Enrollment:  8
The GTAW process (formerly called “TIG” or “Heliarc) is typically used for applications that require high quality and or precisely controlled weld deposits, rather than the high deposition, high productivity attributes of other welding processes.  The Level I course is (30 hours) “hands-on” instruction and practice in the basics covering equipment, setup, and welding techniques using the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process.  This course is designed for individuals who have already attained some welding proficiency using the GTAW process and want to enhance their skill level.  The class size is limited to 6 in order to facilitate a high student to instructor ratio and the course will focus on process fundamentals as they apply to common light gauge carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum materials.  The objective of this course is that students are able to set up equipment, adjust parameters, and gain proficiency “bench welding” common materials.    Students should wear leather shoes, a long sleeve shirt, and safety glasses.

WELD-02 SMAW WELDING LEVEL I
Starts:  2/28 thru 3/27/12
Tuesday 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
5 weeks
$288 + $100 Materials Fee ($388)
Maximum Enrollment:  10
This is a beginner level course designed to introduce students to the ART and SCIENCE of welding. The course focuses on developing hands-on proficiency using the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) process. This process commonly known as “STICK WELDING” utilizes basic, relatively inexpensive to acquire equipment, and is the standard for a variety of industries and applications. This course is designed to maximize hands-on practice with instructor supervision so students develop proper technique and establish good habits. It provides the basic skills students need to start gaining proficiency in joining metal. An excellent prerequisite for the advanced course leading to becoming a certified welder or just getting started on those projects you want to do around your house. For most students it normally takes an additional 30 or more hours of work to prepare for the qualification test.
Students should wear leather shoes, a long sleeve shirt, and safety glasses.

WELD-03 SMAW WELDING LEVEL II
Starts:  4/03 thru 6/12/12
Tuesday 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
10 Weeks
Maximum Enrollment:  10
$504 and a $145 Materials fee ($649)
The advanced course is designed to enhance SMAW welding skills and prepare students for taking a structural steel welder performance qualification test(s) in accordance with the requirements of the D1.1 Structural Welding Code- Steel published by the American Welding Society. This 10-week session is predominantly hands-on practice with instructor supervision using the SMAW process in various welding positions. Upon completion of the course students who feel that they have achieved sufficient proficiency can schedule a welder performance qualification test(s). Note: It is strongly recommended that students have significant prior welding experience, or take the Level I course as a prerequisite for this course.   Students should wear leather shoes, a long sleeve shirt, and safety glasses
