Students study human development and investigate the physical, intellectual and socio-emotional development issues of infants, children, adolescents, people with disabilities and the elderly in preparation for a career as a service provider to these populations. The continuing development of interpersonal skills focuses on the importance of communication as a necessary skill for successful employment in the field. Students spend extensive time in the Stafford Technical Center preschool and at various community facilities.

Through practical experience in the preschool lab, work experience in the community, and classroom instruction, students develop an awareness and knowledge of human development. Students refine employment skills in the area of client care. FCCLA, a student leadership organization, provides opportunities for community service.
Sample Job Opportunities:
Students who major in Human Services and who complete the one-year program will develop necessary skills for entry-level employment or continuing education in any of the areas noted below.
Career choices not requiring a college education may include working as an aide in a preschool, day care, elementary school, recreation department, nursing home, group home, or private child care facility.
Career choices requiring further education include: teaching, social worker, recreation director, coach, author, psychologist, day care director, and dietitian.
